Do I Need To Wear My Invisalign® Aligners All The Time?

Do I Need To Wear My Invisalign® Aligners All The Time?

Since your Invisalign clear aligner can be removed, you don't have to wear them all of the time. This is why our orthodontic team is explaining the length of time you have to wear your aligners every day and why it's critical to the success of your treatment.

The Invisalign system consists of a series of clear aligners custom-made to fit your smile. They have a transparent design so most people will struggle to see them when you have them on your teeth. And they are removable so you can keep enjoying all of your favorite foods and continue brushing and flossing your teeth as normal.

Total Treatment Time

The duration of your Invisalign treatment will depend on the misalignment of your teeth. The only way you will be able to get an exact estimate for the length of your treatment, is to schedule an appointment with your orthodontist.

Even though you are able to take your aligners out, it’s essential not to abuse this privilege. Leaving your Invisalign aligners out too long will have a negative impact on the progress of your treatment. The less time you wear your aligners, the longer your treatment will take.

Your treatment can't progress unless you wear your aligners, so be sure to carefully follow your orthodontist's instructions and attend regular checkups.

Time Per Day

You should wear your Invisalign aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day. Regardless of the length of your treatment, for the best results, you should keep your aligners in your mouth as long as you can every day.

You are able to remove your aligners to eat, brush, and floss, but don't overdo it. Remember to wear them for at least 20 hours a day.

Time Per Aligner

You will receive a series of aligners - as few as 12 or as many as 48. Typically, you will wear each aligner for about two weeks. The general idea is that you'll wear them until your teeth shift to the next stage of your treatment.

If your treatment has progressed in the two-week time frame, you can begin wearing the next aligner in your set. If not, you might need to continue wearing the current one a bit longer.
