Invisalign® First for Children
We now offer Invisalign First, a new range of Invisalign aligners for children, at our Surrey and Langley orthodontic clinics.
What is Invisalign First?
Invisalign First for kids works a lot like regular Invisalign treatment, but Invisalign First is specially designed for children, with room for permanent teeth as they erupt.
Invisalign First is able to correct many orthodontic issues commonly seen in children, such as, arch development and expansion, crowding and protrusions, and tooth spacing.
Invisalign First gradually guides children's teeth into their correct positions as they grow in. This may lessen or eliminate the need for more extensive or invasive orthodontic treatment when the child is older.
How Does Invisalign First Work?
Invisalign First is designed to expand and contour a child's jawline with a process called dental arch expansion. Dental arch expansion applies pressure to the teeth in order to gradually increase the width of the dental arch.
When you bring your child in for their first consultation at our office, the orthodontist will determine whether your child is a good candidate for Invisalign First treatment.
If your child is a good candidate for treatment, the orthodontist will initiate the Invisalign First process by taking pictures, x-rays, and impressions of your child’s teeth, mouth, and jaws. These will be sent to the Invisalign lab, where your child's custom aligner(s) will be made.
Once the aligners are ready, your child will visit us again to fit the aligner(s) to their teeth.
Your child's aligners will gradually shift the teeth into their new positions throughout the course of their treatment. Depending on the severity of your child's misalignment, either a single aligner, or a pair of aligners (one for the upper and one for the lower jaw) may be required in order to correct the issue.
Invisalign First Benefits for Kids
Invisalign First can be an ideal alternative to standard Phase 1 Orthodontic treatment for some children because it's:
- Designed to treat a broad range of children's simple and complex orthodontic issues, including crowding, spacing, and narrow dental arches.
- Designed to be comfortable for your child to wear, meaning no irritation from rubbing brackets or poking wires.
- Removable, allowing children to brush and floss just like they always have.
